Urinary Frequency

Why do I have to go to the bathroom all the time? What can Healthy Pelvy: Pelvic Floor Therapy do to help me?

A lot of our patients tell us that they find themselves returning to the bathroom over and over throughout the day. And sometimes when they get on the toilet, only a few droplets come out, despite the sensation of really having to go.

This is called urinary urgency and frequency. The confusing part is that it doesn’t seem proportional to what actually is in the person’s bladder because almost no pee comes out.

At Healthy Pelvy, we spend time discussing the intricate details of your bathroom routine. What exactly is happening, and when. This often involves detailing a bladder diary consisting of: what time did you pee, how much came out (sometimes we just count seconds of time while urinating), how much of an urge did you have before, what were you doing leading up to going to the bathroom, did you leak and how much, as well as how much fluid did you drink throughout the day.

These details help us identify any influences on your urinary symptoms.

After these are reviewed, we also will assess your body’s movement and balance, as well as potentially assess your pelvic floor. Some urinary urgency and frequency is related to your pelvic floor muscles being more tense or more relaxed than is functional. Sometimes it’s related to bearing pressure down on your pelvic floor in activities during your day. Sometimes it’s caused by your pelvic organs (bladder, urethra, uterus, rectum) having descended downward. Healthy Pelvy pelvic floor therapy is able to assess this and provide appropriate exercises and activities based on your specific condition.
